What Is Stretch Film and Why Does It Matter?

Stretch film is a highly elastic LLDPE film that is stretched around a pallet or product. As it tries to return to its original length, it squeezes the load into a single stable unit, preventing shifting, toppling and damage during handling, storage and transport. It also protects goods from dust and moisture and makes tampering easy to spot.

The right film can lower your packaging cost per pallet significantly. High pre-stretch films such as Stretch Tech STAR SC (400%) turn one metre of film into five metres on the load, while low-gauge hand stretch films give the same holding power with much less plastic.

For agriculture, our silage film keeps forage airtight and nutritious for months, and our baler twine holds hay and straw bales firmly from field to feed.

Stretch film (stretch wrap or pallet wrap) is a highly elastic plastic film, usually made from linear low-density polyethylene (LLDPE), that is stretched around pallets and products. Its elastic recovery holds items tightly together, keeping loads stable and protected from dust, moisture and tampering during storage and transport.

Machine stretch film is made for automatic and semi-automatic pallet wrappers and is engineered for high pre-stretch (150% to 400%), so it uses less film per pallet on high-volume lines. Hand stretch film is lighter, has smaller rolls and cores, and is applied manually or with a dispenser - ideal for lower volumes, retail and warehouses.

Silage film is a multilayer, UV-stabilised agricultural stretch film used to wrap round and square bales of grass or forage. It seals out oxygen so the forage ferments into high-quality silage. Our Stretch Tech AGRIFLEX Evolution 5+ silage film comes in 500 mm and 750 mm widths, in black, white and green, with a 12-month UV guarantee.
